Special Needs Anti-Bullying Toolkit

Welcome to our specially designed tool kit for parents, teachers and students dealing with bullying and children with special needs.

This toolkit is a set of resources for people to confront bullying of children with special needs from all angles - from talking to your children to knowing your rights to teaching tolerance in schools. Start by reading the Top Ten Facts to know about bullying and children with special needs, and then learn about the unique challenges children with special needs face when encountering bullying.

Now you have the facts, but want to DO something to help create a bully free world? Getting started is as easy as writing a letter to your child's teacher, or asking your Principal to post your school's anti-bullying policy in public places around the school building. It could mean talking to your child about how he or she has experienced bullying, or reading about the roles of bullying and identifying your personal place in the cycle of bullying.

David and Tina Long shared their own personal, painful experience with bullying in the BULLY film. They took some time recently to record this message about why they're excited about the resources available in the toolkit. Check it out -

Every step towards a bully free world will help a child with special needs live free from fear and torment. Take your first action today, and tell us how you're working to create a bully free world for children with special needs in your home, school, and community.

Bullying is something what which can disperse the someone intentions and lead to the disasters. “Think before speak” it’s a famous quote but new generation looking to avoid such thing. Most of the youngsters thinks that they have right to enjoy there life by passing some comments top other. We all have to work to bring awareness in people to eradicate such type bad things that’s the only way which can lead us to the peaceful world.

Don’t never ever have afraid of the bullies, don’t let them think they can do with you why you want! You’re stronger than you think, set your aims and think as I thought at the time: once you reach your goal, people who used to bully you, will apologize you! Trust me :)

Whole of my education life is filled up with bullying incidents. When i was in school few friends of my elder brother are cause of headache for me. They try different ideas to annoying me that were the pathetic years. But the one thing i have learned from there that try to give your children a confidence that he is as powerful and intelligent as the other children are, Try to control the nervous that thing will lead the children towards the successful life.

I am a mother of three boys, two that have special needs. They have been bullied all through their shool. When we went to complain to the shcool principal all they would do is say it was them that strarted it and the bullys got away with it. It got to the stage where my children didn’t want to go to school anymore and my other son is being hasseled and wont report it as he has seen what happens to his brothers and has thought of killing himself but I am getting him help and support that he needs to deal with his feelings. But the education system here in Australia are worthless as all they do is blame the children. When will it stop?

Some times little ignorance by the parents disturbed children for the whole of the life. In last decade incidents related to bulling is constant on rise. But it has been seen that several of organization are now active to stop this disturbance. Its duty of every parent to educate their children in a such a way so they can support the other children in case of problem. None can consoling your children as compare to you. S o giving them power to speak what they want to share with you is the real gift we can give our children. Even in my hostel days one off my room mate write several bad things on my small size fridge http://small-fridge.net/ which my father give me on the time of admission. But with wisdom and confidence i solve the matter without any problem.

I am a mother of a 5-year old boy on the high functioning end of the spectrum. Children are mean to him because he likes to touch their hair, especially while standing in line at school. He goes up to children and they either ignore him or make fun of him because he speaks like a 4-year-old. It breaks my heart because he is sweet and caring, and he does cry. I am an educator in the making, going to school to become a teacher. I advocate for all underrepresented children, not only those with disabilities but for English Learners and minorities as well. I dream of the day when people are more sensitive and caring towards those who have different needs. Thank you for creating websites like this one!

you are mentioning to talk to the principal about posting the district bullying policy but if it’s the principal that is being the bully and no one will stand up to him then what?

When I hear of a young precious life being taken away it gives me chills and tears, it is so unfortunate. More people should understand people who are different. Come together, we are all brothers and sisters in GODs eye.

My son is 12 years old and has Autism. Currently his social deficit prevents him from realizing he is being bullied when other kids at school are pretending to be his friend, teasing him. It breaks my heart! I could use some ideas to work with staff and teachers. Thank you…

I was bullied and it is terrible feel when all in class start to bullying you and when you always run home crying. They use bullying for a fun and joke to make themselves cool, but they have no idea how it can terrible be, how it hurts! Bullying must stop.
