Special Needs Anti-Bullying Toolkit

Welcome to our specially designed tool kit for parents, teachers and students dealing with bullying and children with special needs.

This toolkit is a set of resources for people to confront bullying of children with special needs from all angles - from talking to your children to knowing your rights to teaching tolerance in schools. Start by reading the Top Ten Facts to know about bullying and children with special needs, and then learn about the unique challenges children with special needs face when encountering bullying.

Now you have the facts, but want to DO something to help create a bully free world? Getting started is as easy as writing a letter to your child's teacher, or asking your Principal to post your school's anti-bullying policy in public places around the school building. It could mean talking to your child about how he or she has experienced bullying, or reading about the roles of bullying and identifying your personal place in the cycle of bullying.

David and Tina Long shared their own personal, painful experience with bullying in the BULLY film. They took some time recently to record this message about why they're excited about the resources available in the toolkit. Check it out -

Every step towards a bully free world will help a child with special needs live free from fear and torment. Take your first action today, and tell us how you're working to create a bully free world for children with special needs in your home, school, and community.

I am a mother of a 5-year old boy on the high functioning end of the spectrum. Children are mean to him because he likes to touch their hair, especially while standing in line at school. He goes up to children and they either ignore him or make fun of him because he speaks like a 4-year-old. It breaks my heart because he is sweet and caring, and he does cry. I am an educator in the making, going to school to become a teacher. I advocate for all underrepresented children, not only those with disabilities but for English Learners and minorities as well. I dream of the day when people are more sensitive and caring towards those who have different needs. Thank you for creating websites like this one!

Children are the most innocent creature on earth they do mistakes with out knowing its consequences. It duty of parents to guide children. Now everyone using internet and publicly connected to many strangers.Hackers hit the children to get the information about private data. http://enhanced-identity-theft-protection.com/statistics-of-identity-theft-2013-and-2012/ shows that a constant increase in it and most inforamtion is leaked by the children so add identity theft security to your children priorities so yo can protect them.

you are mentioning to talk to the principal about posting the district bullying policy but if it’s the principal that is being the bully and no one will stand up to him then what?

When I hear of a young precious life being taken away it gives me chills and tears, it is so unfortunate. More people should understand people who are different. Come together, we are all brothers and sisters in GODs eye.

My son is 12 years old and has Autism. Currently his social deficit prevents him from realizing he is being bullied when other kids at school are pretending to be his friend, teasing him. It breaks my heart! I could use some ideas to work with staff and teachers. Thank you…

I was bullied and it is terrible feel when all in class start to bullying you and when you always run home crying. They use bullying for a fun and joke to make themselves cool, but they have no idea how it can terrible be, how it hurts! Bullying must stop.
